Category Labs researchers propose batched and weighted threshold encryption with silent setup for encrypted mempools.

Category Labs researchers have published a cryptography paper titled Batched and Weighted Threshold Encryption with Silent Setup, which builds on an earlier scheme called BTX. The work proposes an approach for encrypted mempools that incorporates weighted decryption suited for Proof-of-Stake blockchains, eliminates the need for interactive key generation between parties, and enables batch and index independence to reduce operational constraints. The authors are Amit Agarwal, Champ Chairattana-Apirom, Sourav (identified by handle), and Babak Poorebrahim Gilkalaye.
The scheme addresses practical requirements for privacy-preserving transaction pools by decoupling setup from coordination and allowing flexible decryption weights—features intended to streamline mempool operations. Silent setup removes a key friction point in threshold encryption deployments where participants historically had to engage in multi-party computation during initialization.
The full paper is available on the Cryptology ePrint Archive. No timeline for adoption or deployment across specific blockchains has been announced.
