Ethereum core developers postpone the Glamsterdam upgrade on Hoodi testnet to investigate EIP-8037 gas accounting compatibility issues with existing smart contracts.

Ethereum core developers have delayed the Glamsterdam upgrade on Hoodi testnet, which had been set for October 26, in order to examine how EIP-8037's modifications to gas accounting interact with live smart contracts on mainnet. The associated plan to raise Hoodi's gas limit to 200 million has been shelved alongside the postponement. Node operators will need to refresh their software to block the fork from executing on its original schedule, according to the Ethereum Foundation.
EIP-8037 introduced gas accounting changes that may affect how existing contracts behave. The core concern centers on whether these alterations remain compatible with the current smart contract ecosystem before rolling out to the main network.
No replacement timeline has been announced for either the Hoodi testnet upgrade or its subsequent mainnet deployment. The investigation into the compatibility gap remains ongoing, leaving the broader rollout schedule undefined.
