Lisk Chain shuts down, pivots entirely to business finance platform
Tech & Launches ·
The Ethereum Layer 2 network Lisk operated has closed after a decade, with its user-facing services switched off in stages.
The Lisk Chain shutdown began on 2 November 2026, when the Lisk Portal and Lisk Bridge closed to users, according to the official announcement. The rest of the chain's infrastructure was then switched off behind those front-end services. Lisk said the closure reflects a shift to focus entirely on what it calls a modern finance platform for businesses, which is currently in Early Access.
Around 5.2 million LSK sitting in the staking rewards contract will be burned once the chain is fully shut down, covering rewards that were never assigned as well as rewards that were earned but never claimed, per the company's blog post. This burn follows an earlier 100 million LSK burn in September, further reducing the token's total supply, which now stands at 300 million with 0% inflation.
Lisk has stated that the token itself is not being discontinued. LSK will continue as what the company describes as the loyalty token of the new Lisk platform, moving its home to Ethereum, with businesses expected to earn and spend LSK on the platform starting in 2027.
For users who still have assets on the now-closed Lisk Chain, recovery is not guaranteed. The Lisk Portal and Bridge, the primary interfaces for accessing those assets, are closed, and the company has said it cannot guarantee asset recovery. A manual claims process is planned for January 2027, though further details have not yet been shared.
Projects previously built on the Lisk Chain have been pointed toward Celo, which has committed to supporting migrations, with a form available for developers to register interest. What remains unresolved is the scope and mechanics of the January 2027 claims process, how many users or projects are affected by the asset-recovery uncertainty, and how the new business-focused Lisk platform, still in Early Access, will perform once it moves beyond that stage.
