L2BEAT has released a ranking system for privacy protocols that tests them against five distinct threat models—a public chain observer, a chain analyst using clustering and heuristics, a network observer such as an RPC provider, a privileged insider with protocol access, and a future adversary with quantum capabilities or complete historical data. The evaluation measures three privacy dimensions: link privacy obscuring address connections, amount privacy hiding transaction values, and recipient privacy using stealth addresses, with results shown via color coding where green indicates the protocol defeats that adversary under standard conditions. Of eleven protocols tracked, only Tornado Cash and Railgun Project achieve green status against all current-day adversaries, while seven of the remainder fail specifically against the privileged insider model. The tracked protocols include Tornado Cash, Railgun, Zama Confidential Tokens, Privacy Pools, STRK-20, Privacy Boost, Umbra Cash, Payy, Cloaked, Fluidkey, and Zcash via NEAR Intents, collectively holding hundreds of millions of dollars in total value locked as of September 2026.
