NYSE spent a year testing Avalanche for tokenized securities

Ava Labs says the exchange has been evaluating blockchain infrastructure built on Avalanche as part of its tokenization plans.
The New York Stock Exchange has spent roughly a year running tests on Avalanche technology to support tokenized securities, according to a statement from Ava Labs cited by The Block. The exchange's evaluation is being framed as part of a broader look at blockchain infrastructure rather than a finalized deployment.
Parent company Intercontinental Exchange, which has owned the NYSE since 2013, has separately been exploring on-chain perpetual markets, and the wider cluster of reporting ties that exploration to Avalanche as well. Corroborating accounts describe ICE examining an alternative trading system meant to enable 24/7 on-chain trading, with Avalanche named as the underlying blockchain under consideration for that system.
The mechanics matter because the NYSE operates as a self-regulatory organization: any structural change to how securities trade — including a shift to blockchain-based settlement or a new trading venue — requires the exchange to file proposed rules with the SEC, which then reviews and either approves or rejects them through a public process. That regulatory pathway has already shaped how crypto ETFs and tokenized products have reached the exchange's electronic arm, NYSE Arca, and would apply to any tokenized-securities infrastructure that moves from testing into production.
The testing disclosure lands alongside other recent NYSE-adjacent crypto milestones cited in the surrounding coverage, including a spot AVAX ETF from Bitwise listing on the exchange, and a separate estimate from Benchmark suggesting that capturing just 0.01% of NYSE's roughly $44 trillion market could meaningfully scale tokenization platform Securitize. Those data points are part of a cluster of at least four distinct sources tracking the exchange's expanding footprint in tokenized and on-chain markets, a footprint further detailed on Leviathan's Atlas page for AVAX.
Additional reporting on the testing effort has also circulated through WuBlockchain, adding to the corroboration around Ava Labs' characterization of the NYSE's year-long evaluation.
What remains unresolved is whether the year of testing translates into an actual production deployment, what specific securities or asset classes would be tokenized first, and how ICE's parallel work on a 24/7 on-chain trading system would interact with existing NYSE Arca listing rules. No timeline for a formal SEC filing or rule-change proposal tied to Avalanche has been disclosed.
