Pi Network's Core Team has deployed three new developer tools aimed at expanding the platform's app ecosystem. The features include device-based local storage for whitelisted applications, an API granting developers access to user staking data specific to their apps, and native file and video sharing capabilities. The local storage option permits selected apps to retain user information—such as preferences and session details—directly on devices rather than requiring developers to maintain separate backend infrastructure, potentially lowering costs while ensuring consistent performance across Android and iOS platforms.
Alongside these technical additions, Pi Network consolidated its fragmented developer resources into a unified documentation hub covering registration, sandbox environments, authentication, payments, and mainnet readiness. The update also introduces AI-guided assistance for authentication and payment integration. These releases follow months of development focused on moving beyond basic cryptocurrency transactions toward practical applications that encourage genuine ecosystem use.
Several constraints remain. Local storage access is restricted to whitelisted applications and subject to capacity limitations, with older data potentially subject to removal. Data stored locally does not upload to Pi Network's servers. The staking data API and file-sharing feature specifications, along with developer adoption timelines, have not yet been detailed.
