Zcash Labs launches as an independent entity to lead privacy-focused cryptocurrency development.
Tech & Launches ·
Zcash Labs has begun operations as an independent organization with three core mandates: helping businesses and institutions integrate Zcash, building privacy-focused network infrastructure, and deploying grants to projects expanding real-world Zcash adoption. The organization is already backing launched initiatives—including zcashtocash, a service that converts Zcash to fiat through peer-to-peer settlement with connections to six payment platforms including Venmo, Cash App, and Zelle, covering more than 100 geographies.
The organization operates infrastructure including a Shielded Vote Validator and instances of lightwalletd and full nodes, with plans to launch additional RPC services. It also provides custom technical solutions where existing options fall short for business integration, and offers grants, consulting, and technical support to projects meeting its adoption criteria.
Zcash Labs is advancing a coinholder retroactive-grants funding model rather than operating as a conventional consulting firm. Under this approach, the organization covers upfront costs for integrations and projects itself, then seeks reimbursement from coinholders plus a 20% markup during each retroactive-grants period. Coinholders retain the authority to approve or deny reimbursement requests, which means the organization bears financial risk if its funding decisions prove misaligned with coinholder priorities.
