Zcash developers are targeting November 5 to activate NU7, an upgrade that reduces block confirmation time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, delivering a threefold speed increase for private transactions. The upgrade maintains Zcash's fixed supply by proportionally reducing the mining reward per block, while introducing a Network Sustainability Mechanism that will bank transaction fees beginning in 2026 to support miners after 2031, when Bitcoin-style halvings eventually phase out mining revenue. Coinholders voted 98.9% in favor of preserving Zcash's halving model, with the underlying specifications due by September 30.
