Deus X Capital, a $1B crypto VC firm led by former Galaxy Digital executive Tim Grant, is shutting down and winding up by January 31, 2027.
VC & Fundraising ·
Deus X Capital, a crypto and fintech investment firm with $1 billion in deployment capacity, has ceased operations and will formally wind down by January 31, 2027. The firm was led by Tim Grant, a former Galaxy Digital executive. The shutdown follows a restructuring among the Morton family, its backing group: Shane Morton launched AI-focused Darius, where Grant will serve as CEO of TensorX, while Owen and Jason Morton established markets-focused firm 95.
Since its October 2023 launch, Deus X had been active across multiple segments of institutional crypto infrastructure. The firm incubated Solstice Labs, an institutional DeFi protocol, and held significant positions in Alpha Lab 40, a market maker, and Cor Prime, a prime broker. The timing and mechanics of the wind-up process remain unspecified beyond the stated completion date.
It is unclear whether the shutdown reflects broader difficulties in the institutional crypto space, portfolio performance issues, or primarily a strategic reallocation of the Morton family's capital toward emerging areas. The status of Deus X's existing portfolio companies and their access to further support has not been detailed.
