BNB Agent Studio v2 integrates x402 onchain payments, enabling AI agents to receive direct payment for services with improved developer fund controls.
AI & Agents ·
BNB Agent Studio's second version now incorporates x402, an HTTP-native payment standard that enables AI agents to directly receive compensation for services rendered. The update also provides developers with enhanced control over fund management for their deployed agents. x402 is a protocol that allows web services and AI agents to settle stablecoin transactions like USDC directly within HTTP requests, creating a standardized mechanism for machine-to-machine payments across blockchains including BNB Chain, Solana, and Base.
The x402 standard addresses a longstanding gap in web infrastructure by reviving the dormant HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code, transforming payment settlement from an external checkout process into a native protocol feature. Rather than relying on proprietary billing systems or API keys, services can now negotiate pricing and confirm transactions at the HTTP level. Within approximately one year of launch, the protocol has processed roughly hundreds of millions of agent-initiated payments, with the majority of transaction volume occurring on Base and transaction sizes trending toward higher-value transfers.
The integration into BNB Agent Studio reflects broader ecosystem adoption, as major infrastructure providers including cloud platforms and blockchain networks have begun supporting x402 to enable autonomous agents as paying customers. It remains unclear what specific fund-control features developers gain access to or whether additional tools are planned for future releases.
