x402, an HTTP-native payment standard for machine-to-machine transactions, now supports Cardano's ADA token alongside existing integrations on Solana, Base, BNB Chain, and other networks. The protocol leverages the long-dormant HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code to enable web services, AI agents, and applications to settle stablecoin payments directly within ordinary HTTP requests, facilitating automated commerce without traditional checkout flows or API keys.
Since its launch roughly a year ago, x402 has processed hundreds of millions of agentic payments, with over ninety percent of volume running on Coinbase's Base network. The standard supports pay-per-request monetization across APIs, content platforms, and AI-native applications, with transaction value shifting from experimental micropayments toward larger transfers. Major infrastructure providers including AWS CloudFront and WAF, Solana, and BNB Chain have integrated the protocol.
The addition of ADA support extends the standard's reach across additional blockchain ecosystems, though details on Cardano-specific implementation timelines, settlement mechanics, and adoption targets remain unclear. It is not yet known whether ADA will follow the same stablecoin-focused model used on other chains or what uptake to expect from Cardano's developer community.
