MetaMask launches Agent Wallet, enabling AI bots to hold and manage crypto assets with self-custody on Ethereum.

MetaMask has launched Agent Wallet through an Early Access Program, a self-custodial wallet purpose-built for AI agents to execute transactions autonomously across multiple blockchain networks. The product integrates transaction simulation, threat scanning via Blockaid, MEV protection, and Transaction Protection coverage of up to $10,000 per month on supported chains including Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BSC, and Sei.
Agent Wallet operates within user-defined rules and safeguards designed to mitigate risks from autonomous execution. Users set daily spend limits, allowlisted protocols, and policy parameters before the agent begins transacting; any transaction flagged as malicious or falling outside those rules requires human approval via two-factor authentication before execution. The wallet preserves self-custody—users retain their keys and can export their Secret Recovery Phrase at any time—while leveraging trusted execution environment-backed key security. The product supports multiple AI frameworks including OpenAI, Claude, and others, and is initially available via command-line interface to accepted Early Access participants.
General availability is scheduled for summer 2026. The wallet targets crypto-native traders and developers already familiar with onchain workflows who seek to delegate transaction execution to agents. Full scope of approved agent frameworks, the breadth of Early Access participation, and operational performance metrics under real trading conditions remain undisclosed.
