Aave DAO approves incentive rewards for Coinbase tokenized stocks on Base
DeFi & Yields ·
The Aave DAO has passed a governance vote introducing variable USDC incentives for a set of Coinbase tokenized stocks used as collateral on Base.
Under the approved proposal, seven Coinbase tokenized equities become eligible collateral within Aave's Base deployment, with suppliers and borrowers tied to those markets receiving variable USDC rewards, according to defiprime.com. The incentive structure is designed to encourage early liquidity in these newly listed markets, which link traditional equity exposure to Aave's on-chain lending pools.
Mechanically, the arrangement follows Aave's standard collateral model: users supplying the tokenized stocks receive interest-bearing aTokens, while borrowers can draw against that collateral so long as positions remain overcollateralized. The added USDC incentives sit on top of this base mechanism, aiming to bootstrap supply and borrowing activity for an asset class that has not previously existed within Aave's money markets.
The move extends Aave's broader push into real-world assets, which has also included the Horizon initiative for RWAs and a cross-chain expansion to Solana via Sunrise. It comes as the protocol has simultaneously been tightening risk elsewhere, including a plan to deprecate 50 low-adoption assets and wind down several chain deployments to cut exposure tied to $98.1M in supply and $15.6M in debt.
Governance activity around Aave has been active on multiple fronts in recent months, from a completed ChainSecurity audit of Aave V4 components to internal debates over DAO structure, including the Aave-chan Initiative's stated plans to exit the DAO over governance-capture concerns. The tokenized stocks incentive vote adds another data point to that governance cadence, though it addresses collateral expansion rather than protocol architecture.
What remains unclear is the exact USDC reward rate, the incentive program's duration, and how much collateral or borrowing volume the seven tokenized stock markets have attracted since the vote passed. Also unresolved is whether Aave plans to extend similar incentive structures to additional tokenized equities or other chains beyond Base.
