Base Dollar stablecoin launched on Base chain.
DeFi & Yields ·
Base Dollar has gone live on the Base network, marking a new stablecoin deployment on Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2. The launch expands the ecosystem of payment and settlement options available to users and developers on Base, which is designed to serve as infrastructure for both retail decentralized finance and institutional onchain payment flows.
Base Dollar joins an existing stablecoin ecosystem on the chain that includes USDC and other digital currencies supporting the network's positioning as a low-cost settlement layer. The Base network itself operates as an Ethereum Layer 2, inheriting Ethereum's security while offering reduced fees and faster transaction confirmation compared to mainnet, making it suitable for both crypto-native protocols and regulated financial institutions.
It remains unclear what specific collateralization model, governance structure, or integration points Base Dollar will prioritize, or how it will differentiate from existing stablecoin offerings on the chain.
