Berachain rebrand its HONEY token to Bera USD (BUSD) to position itself as an institutional stablecoin.
DeFi & Yields ·
Berachain Foundation has rebranded its HONEY token to Bera USD, retaining the ticker $BUSD. The underlying token remains functionally identical—same contract address, same collateral backing—with only the name and symbol changing. The rebrand aims to signal the asset's positioning as a USD stablecoin for institutional adoption, making its purpose immediately clear to a broader audience.
The technical shift introduces one material change: the EIP-712 domain separator has been updated due to the token name change, which invalidates any previously signed permits or off-chain approvals under the HONEY designation; holders must re-sign these if needed. Full rollout across exchanges and platforms is expected shortly. BUSD is fully backed by onchain collateral, comprising primarily USDe at 99.89 percent with supplementary holdings in USDT, BYUSD, and other stablecoins, with 24/7 minting and redemption available.
Yield opportunities have been identified on multiple protocols: Bend offers lending at up to 10.15 percent APY, BeraHub pairs with USDe at 9.42 percent APY, and Dolomite provides lending at 1.91 percent APY. The token has historically tracked near its $1.00 peg. Additional changes to the token are anticipated but remain unspecified.
