BitMEX ended exchange operations at 04:00 UTC Wednesday, halting all trading and new deposits while keeping withdrawals open. Verified users who leave balances on the exchange now face a 1% annual fee or $50 minimum charged monthly, with BitMEX indicating this fee will increase over time. The exchange, which introduced the perpetual swap contract offering up to 100x leverage, was founded in 2014 and completed its wind-down following a strategic review announced in July.
