Circle's chief product and technology officer declined to commit to rolling back Arc if a major lending protocol were exploited and tens or hundreds of millions in USDC stolen. In a September 16 interview, Nikhil Chandhok was asked whether Circle would reverse the blockchain in a scenario involving Aave and the Lazarus Group but offered no definitive answer to the hypothetical.
Chandhok framed the question around Arc's design as immutable public financial infrastructure operated by more than 20 validators. He characterized a blockchain rollback as an extremely significant decision that could fracture the immutability guarantees underpinning the system.
The statement leaves unresolved whether Circle would prioritize recovery of stolen funds against the architectural principle of immutability, or under what specific circumstances that calculus might shift. The role of the validator network in such a decision also remains undefined.
