Cloudflare begins stablecoin wallet rollout for AI agents

Users can now claim a Cloudflare Wallet handle, with the funding and payment tools still to come.
Cloudflare has started building out programmable wallets meant to give AI agents a way to pay in stablecoins for APIs, data and online content, marking a new addition to its push into agentic commerce, according to theblock.co. The initial phase, announced Tuesday, lets account holders reserve a distinct wallet handle, though depositing funds and letting agents actually spend will only arrive at a later point described by the company as "soon."
The system is designed around two wallet types, per blog.cloudflare.com: an Account Wallet meant for people or organizations to load funds and set spending rules, and a Virtual Wallet tied to API keys that gives an agent the ability to transact on a user's behalf. Owners will be able to cap how much an agent can spend, restrict which merchants it can pay, and set per-transaction limits.
Cloudflare has framed these guardrails as a way for an agent to compare cheap API options and settle on one automatically, without needing constant human sign-off or being left free to spend without any ceiling. Micropayment support is planned through x402, a protocol built by Coinbase that lets a website respond to an agent's request with payment terms, allowing the transaction to go through without a login, subscription or issued API key.
The wallet effort follows Cloudflare and Coinbase's creation of the x402 foundation in September 2025, aimed at setting shared standards for payments made directly between machines. Cloudflare has also been working with Visa, Mastercard and American Express on frameworks that help merchants confirm an AI agent is legitimate before transacting with it.
This latest step also builds on Cloudflare's recently unveiled Monetization Gateway aimed at sellers, giving agents a route to buy inference, data, tools and content on their own, within boundaries their human owners define. Not yet clear is the exact timeline for when funding and full payment capability will go live, or how broadly the wallet system will be adopted once those features ship.
