Coinbase links with Moov to bring stablecoin tools to community banks
DeFi & Yields ·
Coinbase and payments platform Moov are teaming up to open stablecoin infrastructure to more than 1,000 U.S. community banks and credit unions.
The arrangement, announced by Coinbase, gives smaller financial institutions a route into stablecoin payments without each bank having to build its own crypto rails from scratch. Moov's existing network reaches over 1,000 community banks and credit unions, and the partnership would extend that footprint to include stablecoin functionality alongside traditional payment services.
The move fits a broader pattern in which stablecoin access is shifting from specialized crypto firms toward mainstream financial rails used by everyday deposit-taking institutions. Rather than requiring community banks to independently manage custody, compliance, and blockchain connectivity, the partnership routes those capabilities through infrastructure Coinbase and Moov already operate, lowering the technical barrier for smaller lenders to offer stablecoin-based products to their customers.
The announcement has been picked up by additional coverage, including a report from wublockchain.xyz, pointing to the deal drawing attention beyond a single announcement channel. It also lands amid a wider push by established payment and finance players to build out stablecoin capacity, with Coinbase itself tracked as a recurring name in ongoing stablecoin infrastructure developments.
Left unspecified so far are the technical details of the integration, including which stablecoins will be supported, the timeline for community banks to go live, and what fees or compliance requirements banks will face to participate. It is also not yet clear how many of the 1,000-plus institutions in Moov's network intend to actually adopt the stablecoin features once available, or whether the partnership will extend to additional currencies or cross-border use cases beyond initial domestic offerings. Further disclosures from either company would clarify the rollout's scope and speed.
