DWF Ventures reports prediction market volume shifting from politics/elections toward sports and parlay trading post-2024 U.S. election cycle.

DWF Ventures reported that prediction market trading patterns have shifted substantially since the 2024 U.S. election cycle. On Polymarket, politics and elections-related volume dropped from 73% to under 20%, while Kalshi saw a steeper decline from 96% to 5% in similar categories. Concurrently, sports betting and parlay-style trading have expanded as a proportion of overall activity.
The shift reflects changing user behavior as the election-driven trading period ended. RFQ-based parlay products, which allow customized multi-leg bets, have gained traction but introduce information asymmetry between market makers and traders, potentially straining the markets' capacity to function as neutral truth-discovery mechanisms.
The long-term implications remain uncertain. Higher recreational trading volume could deepen liquidity pools and broaden mainstream adoption, yet it may also entrench information imbalances that undermine price efficiency. Whether prediction markets can sustain their informational role while accommodating entertainment-focused activity is not yet settled.
