LitecoinVM, an EVM-compatible ZK rollup, will bring smart contracts and DeFi to Litecoin mainnet in H2 2026, with Charlie Lee advising and Nasdaq-listed Lite Strategy backing development.

LitecoinVM, an EVM-compatible zero-knowledge rollup, is set to introduce smart contracts and decentralized finance capabilities to Litecoin's network without modifying its base layer. The project's testnet has processed 75 million transactions since April, and development is backed by a $1 million investment from Nasdaq-listed Lite Strategy, with Charlie Lee serving as an advisor to the initiative.
The rollup architecture allows users to bridge Litecoin to the layer-two network through a trustless process, enabling transactions settled in zkLTC—a wrapped representation of Litecoin on the rollup. Gas fees are denominated in this bridged asset, anchoring all activity to the underlying Litecoin token. The team is targeting a mainnet launch in the second half of 2026.
Several technical and governance questions remain unresolved: the specific security model and validator set for the ZK rollup, the bridge's operational safeguards against loss of funds, and the precise timeline and conditions for the H2 2026 launch. The testnet's transaction volume does not yet confirm production readiness or user demand on mainnet.
