Ondo Finance launches Ondo Network, a high-performance execution layer for on-chain derivatives and tokenized real assets, with Ondo Perps live as the first application.

Ondo Finance shifted course from developing a standalone blockchain to launching Ondo Network, described as a high-performance execution layer designed to pair rapid transaction processing with blockchain-based settlement. The company determined that execution speed—rather than settlement mechanisms—represented the primary constraint on on-chain derivatives markets. Ondo Perps debuted as the network's first application, enabling round-the-clock trading of stock and commodity derivatives alongside the use of tokenized real assets as collateral.
The shift addresses a specific technical bottleneck in decentralized capital markets infrastructure. By deploying a purpose-built execution layer rather than an independent chain, Ondo aims to deliver exchange-grade transaction velocity while maintaining the transparency and finality guarantees of blockchain settlement.
The launch builds on earlier momentum: Ondo Finance recently surpassed $1B in total value locked, captured 70% market share in tokenized equities, completed sub-5-second cross-border Treasury redemptions with institutional partners, and expanded its tokenized stock catalog to over 260 assets. Questions remain regarding adoption rates among derivatives traders and the network's competitive positioning against existing decentralized derivatives platforms.
