Robinhood posted record third-quarter revenue of $1.42 billion but missed earnings expectations at $0.51 per share versus the projected $0.55, marking a decline from $0.61 a year earlier. Net income fell 14% year-over-year to $476 million, though adjusted earnings per share excluding certain items reached $0.60. The trading platform reported crypto revenue rising to $120 million from $100 million in the prior quarter, though this remains down 55% compared to the same period last year.
Event contracts—binary betting instruments on sports and elections—emerged as a bright spot, generating $173 million in revenue, up from $156 million in the second quarter. Customers executed a record 16.4 billion such trades during the period. Crypto trading volume contracted to $50 billion, down 38% year-over-year, though the company continues developing new infrastructure including Robinhood Chain, a layer-2 blockchain launched in July that generated approximately $3.13 million in fees over 30 days by late August.
The company narrowed its 2026 cost guidance range and shares declined in after-hours trading following the announcement. Whether prediction market growth can sustain momentum as a primary revenue driver and how crypto volumes will stabilize remain open questions.
