Spark's market share in DeFi lending doubled to 10.4% in Q2 while the broader sector contracted 30%, with Spark maintaining $3.3M net income and accelerating token buybacks.

Spark's lending footprint expanded sharply in the second quarter despite severe headwinds across the sector. The protocol's share of outstanding loans among major DeFi lending platforms more than doubled from 4.3% to 10.4%, even as the combined loan book across those venues contracted roughly 30%. Gross interest generated by SparkLend climbed 13.9% to $11.61 million on rebuilt borrow activity, while the protocol preserved profitability at approximately $3.3 million in net income despite a 5.8% sequential decline in total revenue net of funding costs.
The gains came as broader market stress persisted through the quarter, with competitors facing steeper revenue pressures: Aave's interest income fell 23% and other major venues experienced comparable compression. Spark's execution reflected both protocol resilience—demonstrated during the April rsETH bridge incident—and active capital deployment strategies, including approximately $150 million allocated to Uniswap v4 pools and a 54% sequential expansion of the Spark Liquidity Layer to $4.2 billion. Token buybacks accelerated to more than double the prior quarter's pace, with $1.31 million deployed to acquire 58.3 million SPK tokens.
Several structural elements remain to be tested. Whether lending demand will recover remains uncertain; the protocol's durability during continued market stress is evident, but sustained growth depends on sector-wide recovery. Distribution rewards contributed three-quarters of net revenue at $4.88 million, raising questions about long-term sustainability of that revenue mix should distribution incentives normalize.
