TradeXYZ diverted $750K in perp fees to acquire ~11K HYPE tokens, marking a shift from spot fee-funded HYPE purchases for HIP-3 ticker purchases.
DeFi & Yields ·
TradeXYZ's fee recipient wallet has begun channeling derivatives revenue toward HYPE token acquisitions. The wallet transferred $250K from its perpetuals fee account to spot trading two days ago, deploying roughly $110K to acquire 2K HYPE tokens subsequently used for HIP-3 ticker purchases. A second transfer of $500K has since moved to spot, with the entity initiating a time-weighted average price acquisition of approximately 9K HYPE tokens valued around $500K.
This deployment marks a departure from prior practice. Previously, HYPE purchases funding new HIP-3 ticker issuance were supported by spot trading fee revenue alone. The shift to allocating perp fee income for HYPE acquisition suggests a change in capital allocation strategy at the protocol level.
The mechanics and scope of this reallocation remain partially unclear—specifically, whether this represents a temporary tactical shift or signals a sustained change in how TradeXYZ deploys revenue across asset classes, and what threshold or trigger may have prompted the initial decision to fund HYPE through perps fees rather than spot fees.
