World Liberty Financial's USD1 launches natively on Canton Network
DeFi & Yields ·
World Liberty Financial has deployed its USD1 stablecoin directly on Canton Network, aiming the token at institutional derivatives, cross-border payments, and real-world-asset settlement.
The rollout puts USD1, the dollar-pegged asset tied to World Liberty Financial's lending protocol, onto Canton's infrastructure with a reported circulating figure of $4 billion, according to a post on X. Three separate outlets have covered the launch, describing it consistently as a move to position USD1 for institutional use cases rather than retail trading alone.
Canton Network is being framed by the project as a venue suited to settlement of tokenized real-world assets and cross-border transfers, alongside derivatives activity that typically demands regulated, permissioned infrastructure. Native issuance on Canton, rather than a wrapped or bridged version of the token, is the detail distinguishing this deployment from USD1's existing presence on Ethereum-compatible chains.
The launch arrives as World Liberty Financial's governance token, WLFI, remains under separate strain. The protocol has faced a lawsuit from Justin Sun over a blacklisted $75 million WLFI stake, an SEC-scrutinized $150 million loan from advisor-linked lending platform Dolomite that preceded a 14% price drop wiping out $427 million in value, and a proposed overhaul of a 62.3 billion-token vesting schedule that would burn up to 10% of insider allocations. USD1 itself has previously been used in retail incentive campaigns, including a Binance promotion distributing $13 million in WLFI rewards to USD1 holders, extended through late June 2026.
What remains unclear is which institutional counterparties, if any, have committed to using USD1 on Canton, and how the stablecoin's expansion interacts with the unresolved governance disputes surrounding WLFI. Whether the Canton deployment changes regulatory scrutiny already directed at World Liberty Financial's lending arrangements is also not yet addressed in available reporting.
