Deutsche Bank moves to offer institutional crypto custody

Germany's largest lender plans to launch a regulated custody service for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and select stablecoins, pending approval from regulators.
Deutsche Bank AG has announced plans to build an institutional-grade cryptocurrency custody service, according to reporting cited by wublockchain.xyz. The bank expects to roll out the offering later this year, contingent on regulatory approvals, and it would let institutional and corporate clients hold and transfer Bitcoin, Ethereum, and select stablecoins through the bank's infrastructure.
The move marks Deutsche Bank's formal entry into digital asset storage, an area previously left largely to specialized custodians and crypto-native firms. By offering custody directly, the bank would let large clients keep digital assets within a traditional banking relationship rather than routing through third-party providers. The bank's roadmap reportedly extends beyond spot crypto holdings, with plans to eventually expand into tokenized financial instruments, according to Bloomberg.
The custody push is corroborated across multiple accounts describing the same initiative, with separate summaries noting the service is aimed at institutional and corporate clients in Europe and framing the launch as a signal of mainstream financial adoption of digital assets. Three distinct sources are tracking the story, pointing to consistent details about the target client base and asset scope even as specific launch mechanics remain under wraps.
What remains unresolved is the timing and shape of the regulatory approval process the bank says it still needs to clear before going live. Also unspecified are which stablecoins will be included at launch, the jurisdictions where the service will first operate, and the technical or custodial partners, if any, Deutsche Bank will rely on to support the offering. The pace and scope of the later expansion into tokenized instruments has not been detailed either.
