Bitcoin miner Hyperscale sold most of its BTC holdings to fund a pivot toward AI data center infrastructure.
Macro & Markets ·
Hyperscale Data, a Las Vegas-based Bitcoin miner trading on NYSE American, sold approximately 685 Bitcoin for roughly $43 million to finance the expansion of its Michigan data center. The company retained 275 Bitcoin following the sale, down from approximately 960 BTC before the transaction. Executive Chairman Milton Ault framed the divestment as a capital allocation decision, stating that converting the liquid asset would accelerate development of a key portfolio asset while also reducing the company's debt by approximately $30 million.
Hyperscale operates the Michigan facility through its wholly owned Sentinum subsidiary, which provides colocation and hosting services for AI companies alongside digital asset mining. The company indicated the sale does not signal a departure from Bitcoin strategy, with Ault noting that Hyperscale plans to continue mining and may rebuild its holdings over time using mining output and available capital, subject to market conditions.
The move reflects a broader trend among Bitcoin miners redirecting infrastructure toward AI computing. Other notable examples include Bitdeer, which sold its entire Bitcoin treasury in February for AI data center expansion, and MARA, which divested about $1.5 billion in Bitcoin in May for similar purposes. Whether Hyperscale's mining operations will generate sufficient output to meaningfully rebuild its Bitcoin position remains uncertain and contingent on market dynamics.
