Bitcoin surged past $80K triggering $192M in short liquidations in one hour, with $450M liquidated daily across 100K+ traders.

Bitcoin climbed above $80,000 for the first time in more than ten days, reversing losses tied to recent actions by US regulators and central banks. The move triggered substantial liquidations across derivatives markets; over $192 million in leveraged positions unwound in a single hour, with short sellers accounting for more than $183 million of that total. Ethereum and XRP rose alongside bitcoin, with ETH moving past $2,550 and XRP topping $1.35.
The broader liquidation picture extended beyond the one-hour spike. On a daily basis, $450 million in positions were cleared, affecting more than 100,000 traders, predominantly from short exposure. Bitcoin itself accounted for the largest share at roughly $119 million hourly, trailed by Ethereum at $36 million.
The timing of the move remains noteworthy given recent setbacks: bitcoin had dipped to $75,000 following a Senate-level legislative development, and additional volatility emerged after a Federal Reserve policy decision. The rebound accelerated following a rate increase announced by the Bank of Japan. Whether this price recovery sustains or faces further tests remains uncertain.
