BlackRock lowered the minimum in-kind conversion threshold for its Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) from $25M to $1M, with plans to further reduce it.
Macro & Markets ·
BlackRock has reduced the minimum threshold for in-kind Bitcoin conversions into its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) to $1 million, down from $25 million, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. The in-kind conversion mechanism allows Bitcoin holders to exchange BTC directly for IBIT shares rather than selling and purchasing through traditional markets.
BlackRock's digital-assets head stated the firm intends to continue lowering this threshold over time, with the eventual goal of making the conversion available at any transaction size. The reduction removes a significant barrier to participation, particularly for institutional and larger retail holders seeking to move Bitcoin into the ETF structure.
It remains unclear on what timeline BlackRock plans to implement further reductions or when unrestricted access at all transaction sizes might become available.
