Spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $460M in outflows over a week while Ethereum ETFs posted $216M inflows, signaling a shift in institutional capital allocation.

Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds registered net outflows exceeding $460 million over four business days, reversing a streak of inflows that had characterized the market since mid-August. The outflows began Tuesday and accelerated through Thursday, with the sharpest single-day withdrawal of $282.56 million occurring on that day. Meanwhile, spot Ethereum ETFs moved in the opposite direction, capturing $216.41 million in inflows on Friday alone and extending their positive weekly performance to a fourth consecutive week of net gains.
The divergence in capital flows coincided with volatile price action across both assets. Bitcoin traded in a wide range between $76,000 and $79,800 during the week, while Ethereum surged to $2,670—its highest level since late January—before retracing to just above $2,500 after encountering selling pressure. The inflows into Ethereum ETFs peaked on Friday, the same day the Consumer Price Index data was released, which appeared to trigger an 8 percent rally in the underlying asset within an hour.
The shift in institutional capital allocation remains nascent; Bitcoin's total net inflows across spot ETFs remain elevated at $55.15 billion as of mid-September, and Ethereum's four-week inflow streak, though notable, represents a reversal of the pattern from most of the prior decade. Whether these flows signal a sustained reallocation or a temporary tactical adjustment depends on price momentum in the coming weeks.
