Bitget announces full exit from Japan market, closing all remaining positions by Dec. 31.
Regulation & Gov ·
Bitget has announced a full exit from the Japanese market, with all remaining customer positions set to close by December 31. The exchange's decision follows regulatory pressures that have led to account restrictions for users in the country.
The withdrawal reflects Bitget's regulatory standing across multiple jurisdictions, where it holds licenses in Poland, Lithuania, Canada, and Australia but operates as an offshore exchange without US broker-dealer licensing. Japan's regulatory environment has evidently become untenable for the platform's continued operations there, forcing the closure timeline rather than an orderly wind-down.
It remains unclear whether additional markets may face similar restrictions or whether Bitget will pursue fresh licensing in Japan. The company has not disclosed the scale of affected users or outstanding positions in the country.
