Cryptocurrency broker Bits of Gold reported a security incident affecting roughly 200,000 customers, with the Tel Aviv-based company announcing the breach on Sunday. Attackers gained unauthorized access through a third-party data analytics vendor, obtaining names, national identification numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses, bank account details, and public cryptocurrency wallet addresses. The company emphasized that customer funds, passwords, private keys, and CVV codes remained secure and were not compromised.
Upon discovery, Bits of Gold disconnected the affected system and blocked further unauthorized entry. The firm characterized the incident as part of a simultaneous global attack that impacted multiple organizations. The company's initial assessment indicated funds and digital assets faced no exposure, though a specialist cybersecurity firm was engaged to conduct a full investigation.
The breach represents the third major incident reported across the crypto sector within a single week. Both SafePal and Trezor experienced similar exposures recently, each tracing back to compromise of external service providers rather than direct attacks on the platforms themselves. Bits of Gold holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification and serves a customer base exceeding 250,000, making the scope of exposed personal data a significant concern despite the protection of cryptocurrency holdings.
