CME Group launches regulated futures contracts for Avalanche and Sui, expanding its institutional crypto derivatives offering.

CME Group plans to launch futures contracts for Avalanche and Sui in early May, pending regulatory approval, as part of its expanding institutional crypto derivatives offering. The contracts will be available in both micro-sized and larger-sized formats, according to the Chicago exchange. Giovanni Vicioso, CME's Global Head of Crypto Products, stated the new offerings would provide clients with greater choice and capital efficiency, noting that March average daily volume rose 19% year-over-year with nearly $8 billion in average notional value traded daily.
The Avalanche and Sui futures join Cardano, Stellar, and Chainlink contracts added earlier in the year, expanding CME's crypto derivatives portfolio beyond its existing Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana offerings. The May 4 launch date precedes CME's shift to 24/7 crypto derivatives trading scheduled for May 29, marking a significant move toward continuous market access for institutional participants.
The timing reflects sustained institutional appetite for digital asset derivatives, though final listing remains contingent on regulatory clearance. CME has also signaled interest in separate initiatives involving tokenization and a cash-related project with Google, though specific timelines for those efforts remain unconfirmed.
