Jon Cunliffe, former Bank of England Deputy Governor, joins Fnality as UK chair; Jochen Metzger from Bundesbank joins Fnality Europe's board.
Regulation & Gov ·
Fnality, a blockchain-based wholesale settlement platform, has appointed two senior central banking figures to leadership roles. Jon Cunliffe, who previously served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, now chairs Fnality's UK operating entity. Separately, Jochen Metzger, formerly a payments official at the Bundesbank, has joined the supervisory board of Fnality Europe and is expected to assume its chairmanship.
The appointments underscore Fnality's push toward regulatory authorization for its institutional payment infrastructure. The firm, which counts Goldman Sachs, UBS, Santander, Bank of America, and Citi among its backers, is working to obtain approval to operate dollar and euro settlement systems tailored for institutional clients.
The addition of central banking veterans to governance roles signals confidence from both the company and its financial institution shareholders in the regulatory pathway ahead, though the timing and conditions of any approval remain unclear.
