Paymonade obtains Liechtenstein MiCA authorization to offer fiat-crypto exchange and transfer services across the EEA.
Regulation & Gov ·
Paymonade has obtained MiCA authorization from Liechtenstein's financial regulator, enabling the firm to provide fiat-to-crypto exchange and transfer services throughout the European Economic Area. The license permits operations under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, which establishes uniform requirements for crypto intermediaries across member states.
MiCA is the European Union's first comprehensive rulebook governing crypto-asset issuers and service providers, designed to harmonize standards and close regulatory gaps that previously existed across jurisdictions. The regulation applies a "same activity, same risk, same rules" principle and prioritizes consumer protection, financial stability, and market integrity by setting uniform requirements for stablecoins, exchanges, custodians, and intermediaries.
Paymonade's authorization represents a step toward broader compliance in the region as unlicensed crypto firms face tightening deadlines under the framework. The extent of Paymonade's operational footprint and product roadmap beyond the initial authorization remains to be clarified.
