Poll shows 63% of Americans view Trump family crypto profits as inappropriate, raising concerns about potential regulatory conflicts of interest.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 63% of Americans view Trump family cryptocurrency earnings as inappropriate, with 69% believing the president's private business holdings are influencing his policy choices. Even among Republicans, roughly half expressed concern that business interests are swaying his decisions, though approximately seven in ten Republicans still deemed the family's crypto dealings acceptable. The survey of 1,166 respondents, conducted from August 14 to 17, carried a 3-percentage-point margin of error.
The polling reflects growing tension between Trump's financial interests and his role in office. Financial disclosures earlier this year revealed earnings exceeding $1.4 billion from ventures including World Liberty Financial and a self-branded meme coin. The White House has denied any conflicts of interest, with a spokeswoman stating Trump acts solely in the public interest and maintains no day-to-day involvement in family business operations.
Lawmakers are currently negotiating Clarity Act provisions designed to restrict the president's crypto activities, with a Senate vote scheduled for next month. The measure comes amid calls from Democratic lawmakers including Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for rules barring elected officials from launching meme coins. What remains unclear is whether such restrictions will advance or how they would be enforced given executive authority questions.
