SEC approves 'Innovation Exemption' for tokenized stocks as S&P Global acquires OpenZeppelin, accelerating TradFi migration onchain.
Regulation & Gov ·
The SEC approved an Innovation Exemption allowing qualifying venues to trade tokenized U.S. stocks on public blockchains without registering as national exchanges, with the relief taking effect immediately for a five-year term. The exemption covers only real tokenized stocks with full rights including dividends and voting, and grants company issuers 30 days to object to tokenization of their shares. The approval came the same day S&P Global announced its acquisition of OpenZeppelin, positioning the company to provide risk assessment for tokenized assets moving onchain.
