Thailand's SEC introduces Travel Rule regulations requiring crypto operators to verify self-custodial wallet ownership and conduct AML/CFT due diligence, effective February 27, 2027.
Regulation & Gov ·
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission has introduced Travel Rule regulations requiring digital asset operators to collect and verify customer and counterparty information for transfers involving self-hosted wallets. The rules take effect February 27, 2027, and operators must retain transaction records for at least five years and make them available for regulatory examination.
The Travel Rule framework mandates that operators conduct anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing due diligence on wallet ownership and control. SEC Secretary-General Pornanong Budsaratragoon characterized the regulations as a measure to limit risks of digital asset platforms being exploited for money laundering, terrorist financing, and technology-related crimes.
The implementation timeline provides operators roughly three years to build compliance infrastructure. No details have been disclosed regarding enforcement mechanisms, penalties for non-compliance, or how the SEC will verify operator adherence to the five-year record-retention requirement.
