DTCC selects Stellar to support blockchain-based settlement for stocks, ETFs, and bonds.
RWA & Tokenization ·
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation and the Stellar Development Foundation announced a partnership to tokenize assets held at DTC on the Stellar public blockchain, with tokenized assets expected to launch in the first half of 2027. The SEC granted DTCC a no-action letter in December 2025, authorizing it to operate a tokenization service for real-world assets in its custody.
The two organizations plan to evaluate tokenization across a range of eligible asset classes. These include stocks within the Russell 1000 index, exchange-traded funds tracking major indices, and U.S. Treasury securities spanning bills, bonds, and notes. The partnership signals institutional interest in blockchain-based settlement infrastructure for traditional financial instruments.
Several details remain to be determined, including which specific assets will be prioritized for tokenization in the initial launch window, the operational mechanics of the DTC service on Stellar, and how the infrastructure will integrate with existing settlement workflows. The timeline and scope of use cases beyond those currently under evaluation are also not yet specified.
