JPMorgan executed a tokenized US Treasury redemption on Ripple's ledger in 4.2 seconds outside banking hours, demonstrating real-time settlement infrastructure for RWA transactions.

On May 6, 2026, JPMorgan executed a cross-border dollar transfer from its Kinexys platform to a Singapore bank account triggered by a tokenized US Treasury fund redemption that settled in 4.2 seconds outside standard banking hours on the XRP Ledger. The transaction demonstrated real-time settlement for real-world asset transactions on a public blockchain, a capability that contrasted sharply with regulatory friction Ripple faced years earlier.
Ripple built this infrastructure through a series of major acquisitions spanning three years. In May 2023, Ripple purchased Metaco, a Swiss custody firm already serving BNP Paribas, Citi, and other large banks. The company then acquired Hidden Road in April 2025 for $1.25 billion—a prime broker clearing over $3 trillion annually—rebranding it Ripple Prime and moving post-trade settlement onto the XRP Ledger. Additional purchases included GTreasury (moving $12.5 trillion yearly for Fortune 500 clients), Standard Custody, Rail, Palisade, Solvexia, and BC Payments, totaling approximately $4 billion in acquisitions by early 2026. RLUSD, Ripple's stablecoin, achieved over 90 percent of all stablecoin supply on the XRP Ledger by August 2026 and gained conditional approval for Ripple National Trust Bank from the OCC in December 2025.
What remains unclear is the broader adoption trajectory among institutional players outside those directly acquired or already using Metaco-backed infrastructure, and whether the efficiency gains demonstrated in the JPMorgan transaction will drive material shifts in traditional cross-border payment flows.
