Kraken Institutional and VerifiedX sign MOU to add vBTC (programmable Bitcoin) to Kraken's qualified custody offering for institutions.
RWA & Tokenization ·
VerifiedX and Kraken Institutional have agreed via memorandum of understanding to integrate vBTC into Kraken's qualified custody offering for institutional clients. The move aims to provide a regulated pathway for institutions to custody and deploy programmable Bitcoin. According to VerifiedX, vBTC maintains full backing by native Bitcoin and can be redeemed for BTC through its protocol mechanics.
vBTC is designed to enable settlement, programmable vaults, and onchain financial applications while remaining anchored to the underlying Bitcoin supply. The arrangement places Kraken's institutional custody infrastructure alongside VerifiedX's programmable Bitcoin layer, bridging regulated digital asset holding with composable onchain functionality.
The memorandum outlines the partnership structure but leaves implementation timelines and specific technical integration details unspecified. Regulatory approval pathways for the qualified custody product and any asset custody minimums or eligibility criteria for institutional participants remain undisclosed.
