Ondo Finance launches tokenized pre-IPO OpenAI notes product for private clients outside the U.S.
RWA & Tokenization ·
Ondo Finance has made available tokenized pre-IPO OpenAI notes to private clients in jurisdictions outside the United States. The move expands access to early-stage equity instruments through blockchain infrastructure, allowing eligible investors to hold and transfer these securities via on-chain settlement.
Ondo operates as a real-world asset tokenization platform that converts traditional financial instruments—ranging from government debt to equities—into blockchain-native tokens while preserving the underlying legal rights and custodial relationships. The company's model treats tokenization as a portability layer rather than a replacement for institutional infrastructure; the token itself becomes a wallet-compatible representation, but the fund manager, broker, custodian, and applicable law remain essential to the structure. This approach mirrors how stablecoins brought dollar deposits onto public blockchains without eliminating banks or sovereign currencies.
The regulatory and operational boundaries remain unsettled. Ondo has pursued SEC guidance on tokenized securities recording and has partnered with established market infrastructure to bridge regulated and blockchain-based trading. However, the durability of this middleware—spanning technology, law, and cross-network liquidity—remains contingent on sustained credibility with both crypto participants and traditional financial institutions. The extent to which this product will attract institutional capital and scale globally depends on how these friction points resolve.
