Securitize and Socios partner to tokenize regulated minority equity stakes in sports teams on blockchain.
RWA & Tokenization ·
Securitize and Socios have partnered to develop tokenized equity offerings for professional sports teams. The collaboration aims to bring regulated minority equity stakes onchain, leveraging Securitize's compliance infrastructure and securities licensing to structure these instruments as compliant digital assets. The partnership combines Socios' existing engagement with sports organizations and fan communities with Securitize's broker-dealer registration, transfer agent license, and Alternative Trading System operator status.
The mechanics center on Securitize's established framework for tokenizing traditional securities while maintaining their legal status under U.S. securities law. By operating as both transfer agent and ATS operator, Securitize can handle token issuance, cap table recording, and secondary trading within a regulated perimeter. This allows tokenized sports equity to function as actual securities with programmatic transfer restrictions and wallet-level investor verification, rather than as unregulated fan tokens.
What remains unclear is the specific timeline for live offerings, which sports properties or teams will participate first, whether any such tokens have already been issued, and what fraction of equity stakes will be tokenized or how many tokens will be made available to investors.
