0xngmi exposed an AI-generated DeFi project fabricating arbitrage profits using Math.random() in an attempt to get listed on DefiLlama.
Security & Exploits ·
A security researcher uncovered a fabricated DeFi project that had solicited a listing on DefiLlama while misrepresenting its operations. The project's interface displayed purported arbitrage trades and associated profits, but code inspection revealed that all figures were generated using Math.random()—meaning trades and earnings were entirely fictional. No verifiable on-chain activity or legitimate wallets backed the claimed total value locked, which appeared only on Sepolia testnet.
The scheme originated from an AI-generation service that creates landing pages. The operator sent unsolicited listing requests to DefiLlama while operating what amounted to a facade with no substantive protocol or trading infrastructure. The project exemplified an attempt to circumvent scrutiny through fabricated metrics in pursuit of visibility and credibility within the DeFi ecosystem.
It remains unclear whether the listing request was processed, whether other projects from the same AI service have been similarly submitted, or what consequences, if any, the operator may face.
