CYSIC exploit perpetrator laundered $743K in stolen funds through Tornado Cash on Ethereum and BNB Chain following October 17 hack of 10M CYS tokens.
Security & Exploits ·
Following the October 17 compromise of 10 million CYS tokens, the perpetrator moved approximately $743,000 in stolen funds through Tornado Cash mixers across Ethereum and BNB Chain. The deposits totaled 300 ETH (roughly $720,420) on Ethereum and 30.4 BNB (approximately $22,580) on BNB Chain, according to on-chain tracking.
Tornado Cash enables users to obfuscate transaction origins by depositing and withdrawing cryptocurrency through a mixing protocol, complicating fund traceability. The attacker's movements across multiple blockchain networks suggest an attempt to fragment the trail across ecosystems, making reconstruction of capital flow more difficult for investigators.
The full stolen amount has now passed through the mixers. The exploiter's primary Ethereum address is publicly visible on-chain, though the funds withdrawn from Tornado Cash would emerge as fresh deposits, making attribution of specific receiving wallets difficult without additional investigative work.
