Category Labs launches Monad private settlement layer for confidential institutional transactions.

Category Labs has unveiled Monad, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain designed to handle 10,000 transactions per second using parallel execution and MonadBFT consensus. The network aims to bridge Ethereum's developer tooling and composability with throughput comparable to Solana, enabling Solidity and Vyper contracts to deploy without modification while preserving full bytecode compatibility.
Monad's architecture rests on concurrent transaction processing, conflict detection, and selective re-execution of dependent transactions to maintain deterministic ordering. Unlike Ethereum's sequential execution model, the network speculatively runs non-conflicting transactions in parallel across CPU cores, then re-executes transactions touching the same storage slots serially to preserve correctness. Block times are targeted at 1 second, compared to Ethereum mainnet's rough ceiling of 15โ30 TPS.
The ecosystem has begun to form post-mainnet, with projects including Neutrl launching yield strategies and Monday Trade bringing tokenized equities onchain. Wallet integrations span MetaMask, Backpack, Rabby, Rainbow, Infinex, and Ambire, though Phantom ended support in August 2026. Questions remain about sustained developer adoption, DeFi liquidity depth, and institutional participation in the confidential settlement layer beyond current pilot deployments.
