Fireplace prediction markets platform shutting down after 195 days, giving users until September 30 to withdraw funds.
Tech & Launches ·
Fireplace, a prediction markets trading terminal that had raised $1.5 million in funding, announced its closure on August 10, with a September 30 deadline for users to withdraw funds and close trading positions. The platform launched publicly on January 27, meaning the shutdown came roughly 195 days after launch and less than seven months after its initial fundraise in February. No explanation for the decision was disclosed in the company's announcement, and efforts to understand the circumstances went unanswered.
The platform operated as an aggregation layer, routing orders to established venues like Polymarket and Kalshi while offering features such as wallet tracking, real-time data feeds, and advanced charting tools. According to reporting, the company had initially reported over 30,000 traders on its waitlist and more than 10,000 followers on social media at launch. Despite the closure, Fireplace indicated openness to sharing its technology with other developers building in the prediction markets space.
The shutdown stands in contrast to larger competitors in the sector. Kalshi closed a $1 billion Series F funding round at a $22 billion valuation in May, while Polymarket is reported to be in discussions for a $400 million raise near a $15 billion valuation. What remains unclear is whether Fireplace's wind-down reflects operational challenges specific to the terminal model or broader market conditions affecting smaller platforms in the space.
