Instanodes has launched post-quantum account security for Ethereum and Solana, according to PR Newswire. The move addresses structural cryptographic risk in blockchains relying on ECDSA and similar asymmetric algorithms, which quantum computers could theoretically break through Shor's algorithm, a capability that current systems lack but that motivates defensive action today.
Post-quantum cryptography uses classical algorithms resistant to quantum attacks, running on existing hardware without requiring quantum technology itself. An Ethereum researcher has indicated that post-quantum account protection can be deployed without a hard fork, at an estimated cost of roughly $0.07 per account, though further audits are pending. The broader industry is treating this as an infrastructure coordination challenge: while technical solutions exist, deploying them across decentralized networks requires consensus and governance mechanisms that have historically moved slowly.
It remains unclear whether Instanodes' implementation covers both token transfers and staking operations, what audit timeline or third-party validation is underway, and how adoption incentives or migration mechanics will function across each chain's ecosystem.
