MetaMask launches Added Protection, a security feature that auto-fails transactions if their outcome differs from preview, protecting against red pill attacks.
Tech & Launches ·
MetaMask has rolled out Added Protection, a security mechanism that validates whether executed transactions produce outcomes matching their previews. When actual results diverge from the preview, the transaction reverts automatically and users incur only the gas fee for the failed attempt. The feature ships as default-enabled in extension version 13.45 across 13 EVM networks that support EIP-7702 smart accounts.
The mechanism addresses a class of attack known as red pill attacks, in which transaction previews presented to users differ from what actually executes on-chain. By enforcing outcome parity between preview and execution, the feature eliminates a vector where users could unknowingly approve unintended transfers or state changes.
Specifics about the feature's rollout timeline, any user control over its settings, and whether EIP-7702 adoption across the named networks is complete remain unclear from available reporting.
